Terroir & vineyards
The Mas de Lunès is the historical property of the Jeanjean family. Matthieu Carliez, technical manager of the vineyards Jeanjean, likes to say that the domain is a vintage all by itself, because it is isolated on a plateau of 1000 ha of scrubland, without neighbor. The unique and rare geological layer of the estate, called E6G, reinforces this notion of vintage wine. The plots of Syrah and Grenache overhang the property. The climate is Mediterranean, warm and dry, tempered by the maritime influence of the nearby Mediterranean Sea (10 km as the crow flies).
Vinification and aging
Pre-fermenting maceration. Fermentation in wooden vats and stainless steel tanks at 23-28°C. Daily pumping over and two rack and returns for optimal extraction. Long maceration of the Syrah. Malolactic fermentation. 12 months. 50% in French oak barrels (25% new, 25% 1 year old, 25% 2 years old and 25% 3 years old). The remaining wine is aged in stainless steel tanks.
An intense red color and a complex nose with dark berry, spicy and garrigue aromas. The palate is well balanced and silky with fruity and spicy aromas and a long minty finish
