Terroir & vineyards
The vines of Mas de Lunès used for this vintage are planted on a soil of red clays with rolled pebbles that are mainly limestone. We select parcels in AO Languedoc Grés de Montpellier with split buds in the spring and decompacting clusters of veraison. The warm and dry Mediterranean climate is tempered by the sea winds. The estate is located in the middle of an ecosystem preserved Mediterranean scrubland.
A wine largely dominated by Syrah (80%) and supplemented by Grenache Noir (20%).
Vinification and aging
The grapes are harvested by hand and we operate in the vineyard a severe sorting of grapes. Once destemmed, the harvest is sorted again at the reception. The grapes are aged in barrels of 500 liters for 30% of the cuvée and in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats (25-28 ° C) for the rest. The extraction of aromas and color is done through daily pigeages on barrels and pumping over and unloading in stainless steel tanks. Maceration on Syrah is long lasting. The aging lasts 12 months in French oak barrels (2/3 new, 1/3 of a wine).
This “Reserve” cuvée with its dark color offers an intense and expressive nose, with lots of fruit, camphoric nuances and hints of vanilla and cocoa. On the palate, we find this aromatic richness, supported by a well-melted tannic structure and prolonged by a spicy and mentholated finish.
